A monster battling/collecting video game & TCG! πβ¨
Hi! For anyone worried about copyright infringement with the parody/spoof characters, that will NOT be an issue at all!
Parody/spoof is under fair use in Canada and not a copyright infringement due to it making a joke/funny interpretation of the original work instead (while also incorporating the meme-like aspect and humour of Druggiemon).
The main storyline/premise of Druggiemon is also NOT based on the parody aspect of other media. Instead, there is a focus on its own unique storyline and ideas. The parody/spoof aspect is only a side quest in the main game and currently coincides with the Druggiemon video game's current Battle Demo (Red Pill & Blue Pill Edition).
The Druggiemon video game has already implemented many parodies of multiple characters in the Battle Demo. There are also many Monster Tamer ("PokΓ©mon clones" as the uninformed might say) games already established and on the market! So that is not an issue at all, as many of them have the "mon" suffix as well. Druggiemon also makes a parody of multiple media as well (Yugioh, Digimon, Power Rangers, Rick & Morty, McDonald's, Spiderman, Batman, The Matrix + more)!
And as a final note, parody/spoof is very common in the "cannabis culture" community and can be seen in a lot of products already in this industry. I just wanted to clear some doubt in anyone's mind if so.
Thank you! :)
An umbrella term is a word (or words) used to connotate many other broad terms/categories within a particular subject.
In this case, it is the usually negative association of the term "drugs." Druggiemon does not support illegal/illicit and unhealthy drug use at all. But instead takes on a humorous approach to a seemingly taboo and somewhat controversial topic.
Drugs also cover many positive things as well such as: medicinal drugs (herbal & pharmaceutical), placebo effects, science-based drugs and much more! There are also Druggiemon types associated with no drugs at all (Sober & Anti-Drug).
The initial idea of why "drugs" was used to create the theme of the monsters in this game has to do with creating a unique elemental/affinity system within the game. Most games nowadays and many in the monster-tamer genre use "fire, water, electric, etc." I thought drugs would be a very funny idea (albeit challenging with its controversy) as there were also a large variety of different types of drugs already.
Laughter is the best medicine, so please enjoy this light-hearted and humorous approach. Thank you so much for understanding, and I hope this clears some confusion if any.
As a solo game dev, I have done all the pixel art and programming for Druggiemon! It is quite an overwhelming task to do by myself, considering the sheer amount of artwork and code to complete the full game (Luckily the amazing music/sounds has been helped with and some of the data-entry work).
There are a lot of funds to cover and talented people to hire for this. These positions include: more programmers/coders, pixel artists, game testers/debugging, data entry assistants, continued support for music/sounds and more.
The TCG and other business endeavours will help the Druggiemon IP grow overall, allowing for more support for the full completion of the video game. The video game is the main resource for all the ideas to be included in these other media formats (trading cards, official artwork, merchandise, mini-games/spinoffs and more).
The TCG sets (and other media) will coincide with the development of the Druggiemon video game! Starting with the Red Pill & Blue Pill Edition (Battle Demo), then the Microdose Edition (mini demo of the main game), and then the development of the main game (Green, Pink & Purple Editions).
Of course this is our dream and not mine only! Thank you so much everyone who has helped me and supported me on this journey. I would like to thank my beautiful family, friends and pets! Life is a video game/dream itself and what more can I do than build the best video game of my dreams that helps fulfill my life duties? Nostalgia may be the greatest drug of all (along with laughter), but we are always looking for those new moments of mystery and excitement! :)
